Lyfe Launch is a transition program designed specifically for students with autism & other exceptionalities, helping students discover their passions & find a clear path for a successful future.

When looking into the future, where do you picture your student?

What do they aspire to become? Most importantly, are they prepared for the real world? We have exciting news which will help you and your student find answers to these questions.

Our team has been hard at work creating a more comprehensive transition program that will help your student prepare for life beyond high school. This program will encourage students to develop and apply their skills to different interests.

Why a transition program?

Transition programs are designed to teach independent living skills, including vocational skills, to students with autism or other exceptionalities, starting as early as 18 years old and up to 22 years old. As students make progress, they fine-tune their work abilities, determine job preferences, and learn to work with growing independence.

main Program components

  1. Our newly installed PAES Lab (Practical Assessment Exploration System) allows students to become “employees” and teachers to become “employers”. We use this lab to assess a student's competitive work potential and interest level, while simultaneously exploring various jobs, using real tools, and developing proper work behaviors in the following five areas:

    1. Construction

    2. Industrial, Consumer

    3. Service, Computer Technology, Processing

    4. Production

    5. Business/ Marketing

  2. Weekly community outings allow students to explore a variety of businesses in person with the goal of internship or future employment. These outings also allow students to hone many daily living skills including accessing public transportation, retail shopping at a big box or grocery store, and finding entertainment spots.

  3. Students participate in classes such as “Lyfe 101” and Personal Finance to further increase knowledge and independence.

Apartment Lyfe

PS Academy has leased an off-site apartment so that students can experience the process of setting up and utilizing this space.

  • Unpack the boxes to move in

  • Make lists of what they need to furnish the space

  • Shop to find those items

  • Cook in the kitchen

  • Answer the door when the doorbell rings

  • Keep the apartment clean and organized just as if it was their living space

  • Learn how to be a good roommate

  • Perform tasks such as getting the mail and taking out the trash

Lyfe Market

Students in Lyfe Launch have set up a school store called Lyfe Market. They purchase and stock products, learn about pricing, logistics, marketing, and much more. They sell items to fellow students and learn the ins and outs of running a business in a fun and interactive way.
